The Benefits Of Berber Rugs And How To Care For Them

Shopping Blog

When searching for the perfect, high-quality rug for your space, you are sure to come across a few Berber rugs. This is a style of rug that is made with closed, looped fibers, rather than long, spindly ones. There are a few benefits of choosing this type of rug, as discussed below, but there are also a few intricacies to its care.

Benefits of Berber Carpet

Berber rugs have a very sleek, luxurious look in comparison to many other rugs. They also retain this look over time, since you don't have to worry about the fibers getting trampled down and flattened — they are already flat. As such, Berber rugs work really well in areas that get a lot of foot traffic, such as down a hallway, in the middle of a living room, or leading into the kitchen.

The tightly bound fibers of Berber also help resist staining. If you spill something on the carpet, it won't soak in immediately. You have a minute or two to soak the liquid up before it penetrates the carpet fibers. Of course, dark liquids like red wine will still stain somewhat, but the effects will be less pronounced than with other types of carpet fibers.

Caring for Berber Rugs

The slight downside to Berber rugs is that you need to be careful about how you care for them. Improper care can cause the fibers to fray and lift, which looks unsightly. You'll need to avoid using the brush attachment on your vacuum when you clean them. Instead, use the floor attachment, which will not generate nearly as much friction on the rug.

When cleaning up spills on the carpet, you also must be very careful to blot, not rub, the staining material. (This is a good idea with any rug, but absolutely essential with Berber.) Rubbing will drive the stain down beneath the fibers into the rug's backing, and then you'll have little hope of ever getting it out. Use absorbent towels and focus on pressing down on the spot to draw the liquid up into the fabric.

Berber rugs come in a wide array of colors and patterns, and Berber Moroccan rugs are also becoming popular. To learn more about these rugs, their benefits, and how to care for them, reach out to a rug store near you. Each rug should come with its own care instructions, which if followed, will keep your rug in good shape.

Shopping Can Be a Rewarding Hobby

I have loved to shop ever since I was a young girl and have always considered it one of my favorite hobbies. While many people find shopping a chore, I love hunting down great bargains, and I often check out every online and brick-and-mortar store that offers an item before I purchase it. That way, I can stretch my shopping dollars and stick to my relatively tight budget each month. I know that there are many people out there that find hunting for deals a chore or simply don't have time to do it, so I thought I would start a helpful blog where I share some of my most recent new shopping deals and discoveries. I hope you come back often and my posts help you!
